ScoredJam @ The Floor

Leading a monthly jam focused on performative score-based improvisation at The Floor on Atlantic Read more about the class below and join us!

Class is a space to research dance improvisation, performance techniques, deep embodiment, and the act of tuning our bodies and minds into spontaneous composition. We begin with workshopping principles of performative improvisation and learning of scores, then progress these practices into a more formal Jam setting. The interest and focus is in building sensation, community, imagination, risk, and design of a performative improvisation practice. Some movement experience is suggested but not required; but we do ask that you bring your fullest physical self, your curiosity, and your willingness to explore and practice together.

Teaching an open contemporary class with Hollis Bartlett as part of the MAD Festival at Nazareth College.

A movement practice to prime the body to dance while prioritizing functionality and clarity through movement research. Drawing from experimental dance lineage, codified modern techniques and improvisational forms; this class is a contemplative and sweaty exploration of our authentic selves. Directing our intentions towards the poetic and practical, imaginative and anatomical, synthesizing movement to allow for risk, rigor, and reward.

salt for curing (excerpt) @ HiArtist

sharing and except of our newest work in process Salt for Curing at HiArtist’s monthly performance event. Sharing the evening with Ishita Mill and Jess Pretty

Hailed by Gothamist as one of “The Best Things To Do In NYC,” Hi Artist events combine an intimate dance performance with a lively gathering to deliver a “once in a lifetime experience” featuring “some of the most creative [dancers] in the country” (Airbnb). Guests enter the private loft of 61 Local—referred to by Time Out New York as “the new nerve center” of Brooklyn’s craft brew scene—through a discreet back door, transporting them to a speakeasy dance theater where everyone has a front row seat. Hi Artist founders Elizabeth Cooke and Xenia Mansour (who are also local dancers) emcee the evening, providing additional context about the artists and sharing untold stories behind the dance pieces being shown. Intimacy reigns supreme: events end with the performers joining the audience for drinks and conversation, giving guests the unique opportunity to meet and mingle with the artists after the show
